Catifes de Corpus: L’Ametlla de Mar, 29 May 2016
The Roman Catholic festival of Corpus Christi was marked on Sunday 29 May.
The streets of many towns in Catalunya were filled with intricate carpets (‘Catifes de Corpus’ in Catalan) of flowers, coloured rice and sand, which residents painstakingly created during the early hours of the morning.
This is a selection of photographs from L’Ametlla de Mar’s display, which – in spite of high winds – looked fantastic. The carpets reflected various themes, including peace, L’Ametlla’s traditions of fishing and olive harvesting, and – to the delight of one visitor – the Disney film, Frozen.
Small persons are allowed to like Frozen. And it’s good that they’re keeping up to dare.
