Draws for El Perelló’s senior handball and football teams
El Perelló’s football team snatched a last-minute equalizer in Aldea to put a dent in the home team’s promotion hopes and the tied game for the handball team ensured that they topped their play-off group. Satisfactory results, but not what the teams would have hoped for, says Richard Pope.
A mixed game for the handball team
Another big crowd supporting the handball team in Perelló’s pavillion saw Perelló control the first half and go into the break with a comfortable 11-7 lead over Palautordero, but the opening few minutes of the second half saw the complexion of the game change completely.

Perelló were off the pace of the game, soon behind by 13 points to 12 and looking second best, but a time-out and a change of tactics saw them stabilise the situation. The remainder of the game was tense with neither team gaining an advantage of more than a single point and the final score of 18-18 was probably a fair one.
In the other group, Tortosa, after a big 35-19 win over Castelldefels, top their table and so avoid playing Perelló in the semi finals of the TOP4. The TOP4 is a knock-out competition with two semi-finals, a final and a losers’ final. Only the loser in the losers’ final doesn’t qualify for promotion. Perelló will play Les Franqueses Del Vallés in the semi-finals.
Congratulations to the Perelló aleví and benjami handball teams who were both crowned as champions in their age groups at the Territorial minihandball finals in Mora on Saturday.
Football update
In the football, a late 89th minute goal by Joan Esteban gave Perelló’s main team a 1-1 draw against Aldeana. Aldeana are one of the five teams who have dominated the league this season and, along with Jesus Catalonia, Ampolla and Remolins-Bitem, are hopeful of qualifying for the one play-off spot on offer.
La Senia were crowned as champions at the weekend when they beat Corbera d’Ebre by the solitary goal.
Perelló in all probability will finish in seventh position.
A fine 3-0 victory over Roquetenc eased Ametlla’s relegation worries but with only two games remaining they are not yet mathematically safe.
