Firabril success for Perelló’s football and handball teams
The gloriously sunny Firabril weekend saw both the Perelló football and handball teams victorious in games that were important to them and their supporters.
The footballers took the opportunity to turn in their best performance of the season on Sunday afternoon. Every player, without exception, from the very first whistle, was alert and determined to get to the ball before his opponent. This produced wave after wave of attacks on the La Senia goal but didn’t produce the wanted effect of a goal and, as is often the case when this happens, the opposition have a break against the run of play and score. This time it was a smartly taken goal by the La Senia striker David Callarisa.
However, Perelló weren’t disheartened and their midfield continued to dominate. It was pleasing to see them closing down quickly, with their superior anticipation and determination to get to the ball first.
Remember that at the beginning of this match La Senia had a clear eight-point advantage at the top of the league and are odds-on to become champions. However, in this game they were being outplayed in all areas of the park and made to look second best. Therefore, it was no surprise when Perelló equalized four minutes later. A beautifully floated ball across the mouth of the goal from Eric Barbera was powerfully headed into the back of the net by Alex Pedrosa.
In the second half, Perelló continued to have the better of the game but without the dominance of the first period and on occasions La Senia showed why they are having such a good season: a couple of times they came very close to scoring.
The match was settled in the 81st minute when from a long, floated free kick into the penalty area by Alex, Raul Gonzalez slipped in behind the defence to place the ball past the goalkeeper. A thoroughly deserved win for the yellow and blacks with, without doubt, their best display of the season.

An impressive win for the handball team
The handball team had an equally impressive win in Palautordera on Saturday winning this, their third second-phase game, by 28 points to 22.
Perelló were on the front foot from the start and by half time had built up a 12-5 lead which allowed them to control the game in the second period. After losing their first game in Parets they have now put together two fine performances.
The return games start on 23 April and Perelló will need to gain revenge against Parets to put themselves in with an excellent chance of advancing to the final phase. A loss would leave them with a lot of work to do.
No games are played over the Easter weekend.
