John’s culture shock: New poetry group to meet 11 July
A message from Annette, member of the poetry group.
This new group is for anyone interested in poetry, even if you know nothing about it, but would like to find out.
John is a retired university lecturer with deep love of poetry and is keen to share his interest with others. At the inaugural session of this group of poetry fans we read and discussed three very different poems.
The first, ‘Beggar’s Serenade’ by John Heath-Stubbs, was interesting and unusual, causing a debate as to its meaning. The second, ‘The Sick Rose’ by William Blake, we agreed was referring to the beauty of England being destroyed by the industrial revolution. The third poem, ‘From That it Rose’ (for Martin), by Peter Morgan, beautifully advising his son about life.
We will meet once a month with each participant bringing up to three poems on a chosen theme to read and discuss.
The next session of John’s Culture Shock will be on Monday 11 July at 11am at the Residencia in El Perelló with the theme ‘Sea’.
Following sessions will start from 5 September (theme ‘land’) on the first Monday of every month.
