Linden and Tim: A few of our favourite things

6 years ago Our readers' recommendations

Tim and Linden favourite thingsLinden and Tim are two Australians who have lived in Tortosa for about 18 months. Here are their top three discoveries so far.

1. Wise worship
A church with a bar – what more can you ask for? Mig Cami, or halfway in Catalan, is, funnily enough, halfway up the hill from Tortosa towards Coll d’Alba. It is one of the best spots in Tortosa for sunset (pictured top) and a great excuse for a walk. The stroll will take you 30 minutes from the centre of town, but only the last bit is really strenuous, and you pass many grand old country houses on the way.

2. Go Green

Via Verde favourite things

The section of the Via Verde bicycle track from Horta De Sant Joan to Tortosa (the Baix Ebre stretch) is a lazy cyclist’s dream. A converted railway track, the wide path runs gently downhill through tunnels, over bridges and among the gorgeous Els Ports nature park. There are several companies that can pick up you and your bike from Tortosa, so you don’t even have to pedal uphill to get there.

3. Classy cervesa

Forn de la Canonja is a “gastronomic space” that houses a cafe, a burger grill, a restaurant, and a bar stocked with local craft beers. The taps are always changing, and there are regular DJs, bands and events, all within a restored collection of buildings in Tortosa’s old town. A Friday night favourite!

Linden writes a blog, which includes updates about her life in Catalunya. See it here.

What are your three favourite things to do in and around southern Catalunya? Whatever your age or nationality, we want to hear from you – send us an email!
