Terres de l’Ebre recognised as top 100 green tourism destination

6 years ago News

delta-houseThe Terres de l’Ebre area has been recognised as one of the top 100 sustainable destinations 2016.

Green Destinations, a global partnership for responsible tourism, runs an annual competition which aims to identify the best ‘destinations for future generations’.

Green Destinations points out that the region surrounding the river Ebre in southern Catalunya was recognised as a UNESCO biosphere reserve in 2013. Additionally, 35% of the area is protected by Natura 2000, an EU network of protected areas for threatened species.

It adds that in addition to the nature conservation, Terres de l’Ebre works on other sustainability elements for tourism.

The top 100 destinations were selected by a panel of tourism and sustainability experts and were announced on Global Green Destinations Day in September 2016.
